students show prototype for reflected light from satellite

5th grade students used what they learned about light properties and Earth's day and night cycle to design and build a prototype.  The prototype's purpose was to create daylight conditions for 24 hours over extended periods.  This group used the design process to construct a satellite that reflected light back onto the side of the Earth that was in shadow.  As Earth rotated, the people on the shadowed side experience partial daylight even when it was supposed to be nightime.

    5th Grade Energy Pict

5th grade students working on assembling a pendulum to test the relationship between potential and kinetic energy. This activity is part of the district's Project Lead the Way (PLTW) initiative to provide our students with the understanding and skills to be successful in school and life.
