Mr. Roger Ellis
Mr. Roger Ellis came to Rio Hondo ISD as Superintendent of Schools in June 2020 from North Texas. He previously served as the Superintendent of Schools for Gold-Burg ISD from 2013-2020, where he help improve the schools accountability from “Accreditation Warned”, to receiving a grade of “B” in the 2018-2019 school year. Prior to becoming a superintendent, Mr. Ellis was a middle school principal in Tom Bean for four years before becoming a High School Principal for seven. At Tom Bean, he was able to hand his three youngest children their diplomas as they walked across the stage. Mr. Ellis also served six years in Anna, Texas where he started as a Special Education Coordinator for Anna ISD and then became the middle school principal. He received his start in education as a Special Education Aide in a behavioral adjustment Unit for severely emotional disturb students and then was able to go through one of the first alternative certification programs in Texas through Region 10 ESC to earn his way to become a Teacher.
Mr. Ellis’ education includes a Bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Dallas with a double major in Economic and Finance, and Business Administration. He earned his Master’s degree in Education from Texas Woman’s University in Denton where he also worked on his Administration Certification and Superintendent Certification.
Mr. Ellis has been married to his wife Karla for 35 years. They have five children including two sets of twins. All of the Ellis children have been able to earn college degrees and live in the Dallas area.
Mr. Ellis and his wife love going to the local school sporting and school events, and hope to meet many of the school staff and community at them.
