Mrs. Diana Jean Zavala (Bustamante)
Diana Jean Zavala (Bustamante) is a graduate of Rio Hondo High School, Class of 1995.
In December 1999, she graduated from Texas A&M University- Kingsville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She worked in Student Housing and continued onto graduate school. In August 2001, she graduated with a Master’s of Science degree in Counseling and Guidance.
She worked as a Career Counselor at UTB-TSC, working with students struggling in their academics, undecided in their major, and undecided in their career. She found great satisfaction in assisting people through the transition of self-exploration and finding their nitch. Seeking career advancement, she then served as the Director of Upward Bound at TSTC-Harlingen.
Leaving post-secondary education, she worked as the TTIPS College & Career Counselor at Santa Rosa High School. Upon completion of the TTIPS grant, Zavala completed an alternative certification program and earned Certification in SpEd (EC-12) and Certification in Generalist (4-8). She taught Special Education inclusion and resource classes, both of which she found very rewarding.
Challenging and earning Certification in School Counseling, (EC-12), she worked as a High School Counselor for a year and today works as the GEAR UP Facilitator of Rio Hondo ISD.
