Academic Excellence and Success

FROM MR. R'S DESK

Bobcat Nation,

At #Rewire [New Jersey Conference] I had the honor of meeting Richard W. Allen, Ed.S. Co-founder/Executive Director of DisruptED TV. We had some great conversations about education and life itself. One thing that Mr. Allen pointed out were the six paths that await every high school graduate:

  1. University/College
  2. Military
  3. Employment
  4. Unemployment
  5. Incarceration
  6. Death

That is it ladies and gentlemen, there aren't any other paths for our kids and of the six, only 1-3 are viable options and we definitely want to avoid numbers 4-6. If you don't know by now, parents are entrusting us to ensure that their children are given every opportunity to survive and thrive in the 21st century. It is our job to make sure that we mold, mentor, inspire, and guide every student into one of the viable paths. My questions to you...

  • How and how often are you incorporating Foundational Literacies?
  • How and how often are you incorporating the 4 Cs?
  • How and how often are you incorporating Character Qualities?
  • Can you guarantee that every one of your students will acquire the skills needed as a result of you and your lessons?

WHAT IS 21ST CENTURY EDUCATION?

Our world is changing at an unprecedented pace. To prepare our students, lessons must go beyond the "3 R's" and foster 21st century skills. Skills like critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity will be essential for students to take on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
